Fresh from headlining a packed show at the Melbourne Museum over the weekend and in the midst of touring with Belle & Sebastian, Totally Mild have today shared the video for single 'Take Today', premiering now on Pilerats. Check it out here.

Filmed and cut together by leading lady Elizabeth Mitchell, the video shows Totally Mild's journey over the past two and a half years - a visual love letter to the band and all of the adventures they have been on in Australia and overseas. 

Liz says of the video: "This video is a special treat, a Totally Mild retrospective.The good, the bad and the hysterical. It’s behind the scenes footage from past tours and from the recording of Her, featuring the romances and breakdowns that happened in the background of those times.”

'Take Today' comes from their recent album Her, a beguiling collection of songs that the band will be touring around the country later this month. Totally Mild have invited a veritable party's worth of friends to join them on the road, with a different bill in every city and special guests including Jaala, HTMLflowers and Spike Vincent. Melbourne's RVG are thrilled to announce their signing to Fat Possum Records (UK/EU), who will be releasing their debut UK track, A Quality Of Mercy, on clear 12” vinyl on Friday 25th May 2018.

The exciting announcement of the Fat Possum signing comes just days before the band head overseas for their UK/European debut, supporting Shame on their 10 date tour, as well as supporting US Girls in London and showcasing at The Great Escape in Brighton!

Prior to jetting off RVG will play two very special shows; a headline show at The Curtin on Thursday May 3rd with Taipan Tiger Girls and Sweet Whirl, and additionally on Friday May 4th the sublime OurGolden Friend x Melbourne Museum edition of Nocturnal with Jade Imagine, Jess Ribeiro andTotally Mild.

Milk! Records and Bedroom Suck Records joined forces last year with the simple aim of bringing together and documenting the community of musicians & creativity that surrounds them every day. They founded Split Singles Club, a vinyl subscription service that delivers six double-sided 7” singles to your door – with one side curated by each label. As well as featuring artists from each label’s family of artists,Split Singles Club also aimed to shine a light on some newer, upcoming bands from Australia's thriving underground.
 
Milk! and Bedroom Suck have passed the torch on to fellow Melbourne-based labels and friends Poison City Records and Our Golden Friend to curate Split Singles Club Series Two. And in what will come as no surprise, they have selected an exceptional list of artists. The 2018 edition of Split Singles Clubfeatures previously unreleased songs from Poison City artists Mere Women, Harmony, Bench Pressand MOD CON, Our Golden Friend artists RVG and 808s & Greatest Hits, plus tracks from bands that they love – Stella Donnelly, Moody Beaches, Elizabeth (Totally Mild), Michael Beach, Way Dynamicand Bitch Diesel. Poison City is an independent record label and skateboard / record store based in Fitzroy. Our Golden Friend is an independent record label and management collective currently based in Thornbury. Melbourne label and artist management collective Our Golden Friend has teamed up with Melbourne Museum for a very special edition of Nocturnal. 

For the first time at Nocturnal, Totally Mild bring their re-imagined lounge pop to stage with delectable glamour. This alt-pop four piece are armed with dreamy yet drenched in melancholy tracks fresh from their highly-anticipated second album, Her (out now via Chapter Music).  Produced by James Cecil (Architecture in Helsinki, Super Melody) expect heart-pulling woozy ballads thanks to vocalist / guitarist and songwriter Elizabeth Mitchell, Zachary Schneider (guitar), Lehmann Smith (bass) and Dylan Young (drums). Her has been met with rave reviews, sending the band on a whirlwind USA and UK tour (including showcasing at the prestigious SXSW) and an Australian tour to follow in May and June.

Continuing the powerful vocal poignancy, Jess Ribeiro will bring to the stage compassionate self-conscious narratives, musically traversing an incredible range of genres. Her debut album Kill It Yourself(out now via Barely Dressed Records) was produced by the acclaimed Mick Harvey (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey) and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize in 2016, as well as earning Ribeiro two nominations in The Age Music Victoria Awards. Fresh off the heels of a successful stint at SXSW, Ribeiro is prepping to release her follow-up album later in the year.

Since performing at Nocturnal in August 2017, RVG have re-released their debut album A Quality of Mercy (out now through Our Golden Friend/Island Records) to critical acclaim and received four nominations in The Age Music Victoria Awards. Soaring even higher in 2018, they've conquered the influential SXSW Music Festival and been nominated for four AIR Music Awards.  Centred on singer-songwriter and namesake Romy Vager, this four-piece band including Reuben Bloxham, Angus Bell and Marc Nolte are back to kill it again with their witty and existential post-punk influenced rock.

Rounding out the evening will be Jade Imagine, a stalwart of the indie scene with their What The Fuck Was I Thinking (out via Milk! Records) released in April 2017.  Fronted by Jade McInally (previously Tantrums, Teeth & Tongue and Jess Ribeiro), the band currently features Liam ‘Snowy’ Halliwell (The Ocean Party) on bass, producer/guitarist Tim Harvey (Emma Louise, Real Feelings) and James Harvey (Teeth & Tongue) on drums. Along with their showcases at SXSW this year, the band has scored some exciting support slots with The Pretenders, Angel Olsen, and Benjamin Booker. 

Merging music with science and humanities, Nocturnal welcomes everyone 18+ to tour the exhibitions (with drinks in hand!), gaze upon collection treasures and speed-meet Museum experts who will be scattered across the gallery spaces. 

For those brave enough, the Museums Victoria Live Exhibits team will have on display golden silk orb-weavers and other impressive species demonstrating all-things-bling. Richard Marchant (Senior Curator, Terrestrial Invertebrates) and Simon Hinkley (Collection Manager, Terrestrial Invertebrates) share sparkly examples from the galaxy of entomology and join Dermot Henry (Deputy Director Sciences) as he showcases the geology of GOLD.  Learn how scientists use gold to scan microscopic creatures from beneath the sea with Lupita Bribiesca (PhD Student, Marine Biology) and Ricky-Lee Erickson (Assistant Collections Manager, Vertebrates) revealing golden marine invertebrates, including worms and sea stars. 

Revellers can also head downstairs to worshippers of gold in Vikings: Beyond the Legend, an exhibition from the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm which features more than 450 original artefacts telling the true story of these often-misunderstood Scandinavian celebrities. RVG ANNOUNCE MELBOURNE HEADLINE SHOW AT THE CURTIN BANDROOM

Melbourne's RVG are today excited to announce their first Australian headline show since returning from the USA. The band will play a very special show in their hometown of Melbourne at The Curtin Bandroom on Thursday 3rd of May immediately before they head overseas again this time bound for the UK & Europe. The band will be joined by special guests Taipan Tiger Girls and Sweet Whirl. With no pre-sales, you'll have to eagerly get yourself to The Curtin on May 3rd as tickets will only be available on the door.

Continuing on with their shimmering streak, this week RVG were announced as being nominated for four AIR Awards. Self-recorded live off the floor at The Tote, and engineered by their bassist Angus Belle, the eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of being trans, falling in love with a computer, the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Each song is played with wit, compassion and commitment, evident in singer Romy’s delivery, her “fierceness, her flow, and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows” (The Guardian). The Fader called the album “a much-needed plea for kindness” with Triple R calling it “emotionally engaging”, whilst awarding their Album of the Week.

RVG signed with Our Golden Friend who re-released their album in October, which led into a much-hyped BIGSOUND set and four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards – for Best Album, Best Song, Best Band and Best Emerging Act. Their set at Meredith Music Festival was one of the most talked about over the weekend, and they went on to support Camp Cope, and then Future Islands, at The Forum – one of, if not the most iconic venue in Melbourne. RVG have since signed with Isla Angus at ATC Live for bookings in the UK/EU and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America. All this growing from a band whose first release of their debut album came with no photo, no press release, no plan.

Fresh off the back of shows with US artist Angel Olsen in Melbourne, Melbourne’s mystic psychedelic rocker Moonlover is psyched to release the music video for new single ‘Lazy Daisy’ as premiered onThe AU Review and announce a single launch at the Old Bar in April with special guests to be announced. ‘Lazy Daisy’ is the latest cut from Moonlover’s debut album Thou Shall Be Free, out now through Our Golden Friend / Island Records.

The video for ‘Lazy Daisy’ shows Moonlover – aka Quang Dinh formerly of Little Red – wandering through a picturesque park and observing the simple things in life. Old friends playing a game of bowls, two lovers watching the clouds, a father and son walking by the pond. On the video, Dinh says, "I was 30 days sober, and feeling like a bit of the fog had lifted, it was a Sunday, the sun was bright and clear, and the people were feeling good."
 
In tune with his occult pseudonym, Dinh releases all of his music in synergy with the Lunar Calendar. The video for ‘Lazy Daisy’ has been released together with March’s second Full Moon, with his debut albumThou Shall Be Free released on its first Full Moon at the start of the month.
 
Thou Shall be Free is the kind of proper record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. Called “surreal” by Pilerats, the album is a collection of reinterpreted nuances from the universe, including title track ‘Thou Shall Be Free’ that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). Thou Shall Be Free has received praise from fans and media alike, with The Music noting “It’s pop music, certainly – but has the self-awareness that it doesn’t want to be too obvious about it” and Speaker TV calling it a "cosmic adventure."

Following the release of their new album Her via Chapter Music and hot-on-the-heels of shows at SXSW, Totally Mild head to the UK for a string of shows this week, starting with the Popular Culture club night at The Finsbury this Friday, a headline show at The Shacklewell Arms on Saturday 24 March and a newly announced Rough Trade East instore at lunchtime on Tuesday 27 March.

Totally Mild is a lush pop quartet led by songwriter Elizabeth Mitchell, with the addition of guitar magician Zachary Schneider, bassist Lehmann Smith and new drummer Dylan Young. With Her, the band's quasi-psychic intensity, surging forward or pulling back in seamless unison has been captured in crystalline form by producer and one-time Architecture In Helsinki member James Cecil.

As always, Elizabeth's voice is a thing of unearthly beauty, capable of soaring and swooping in shiver-inducing ways. As a songwriter she is equally arresting, addressing desires and dreams with affecting frankness.

About the new album, Mitchell says "Her is a record of failure and victory, new desire, stale romance, queer domesticity and what comes when the party is over. I was torn between a new domestic life and the impulse to tear it all away with bad choices. I fell in love, but I wrestled for independence. I was always trying to prove that I didn't need anyone; my wife, my friends, my band. Her is a document of a woman struggling with the idea of potential. We are told that we could be limitless, but we wrestle with unseen personal and structural walls."

POPPONGENE ANNOUNCE 5-WEEK APRIL RESIDENCY

POPPONGENE is the dreamy pop solo project of Sophie Treloar (also of Melbourne outfits Sunbeam Sound Machine and Field Maps). POPPONGENE’s music recalls tranquil summer days, full of warmth and lush with reverb, bordering on the psychedelic with hints of 60s pop vibes.

Joining them throughout April will be some of Melbourne’s finest - Champion Racecourse, Sunbeam Sound Machine (solo), Field Maps, Real Love, No Local, Babey, Way Dynamic, Girlatones, pting, and Tram Cops (solo).

After taking a short break, POPPONGENE is playing the Tote front bar every Sunday in April, debuting a fresh new line up and some brand new songs! The new lineup consists of Skube Burnell on drums (808s and Greatest Hits), Chris Goff on guitar (Them Swoops, Hungry Kids of Hungary), Gemma Helms on bass (Mares) and Deanna Rumsaviche on keys (Oh Deanna).
