MOONLOVER RELEASES VIDEO FOR 'MEKONG DELTA BLUES' AND HOSTS ALBUM LAUNCH AT 'OLD BAR' ON NOVEMBER 3RD

Watch the video for 'Mekong Delta Blues' here

Melbourne songsmith MOONLOVER has today released the beautiful video for track 'Mekong Delta Blues', paying homage to his Vietnamese heritage.

“Hi all,

This is the last film clip that I’m gonna make for Thou Shall Be Free. PHEW!

This one I sliced together from all sorts of different bits.

The song is called ‘Mekong Delta Blues’. I started secretly recording conversations with my father because he’s getting old and his stories about the old country and his life are really important to me. What you hear at the start is an excerpt of one of those chats.

It’s a very strange thing to miss a place you never grew up in. I miss Vietnam, even though I was born in Australia. I grew up in mainly white schools and hung around with mainly white kids and always felt disconnected from being Vietnamese. It’s only in the past 5 years or so that I’ve properly realised how deep Vietnam runs in me and how magical it is to me. Something as simple as getting a banh mi in Footscray and speaking to other Vietnamese cats in Vietnamese gives me great delight and great melancholy at the same time. Oh the pang!

To all the Vietnamese people out there, I hope this clip might help you connect with your culture. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, culture is a beautiful thing and I feel very lucky to be a tiny little thread in such a rich tapestry.'

Thanks

MOONLOVER RELEASES VIDEO FOR 'ON THE DAY THAT I WAS BORN' FROM ALBUM 'THOU SHALL BE FREE'

Melbourne psychedelic pop songsmith MOONLOVER is stoked to release the video for ‘On The Day That I Was Born' – the latest of a string of videos taken from his acclaimed debut album Thou Shall Be Free. The ‘On The Day That I Was Born’ video was animated by May Krason-Plarre, and edited by Moonlover – aka the musical project of Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red. The video is released this morning to coincide with his recent full band tour announcement, which will be taking him to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Thirroul, Canberra, Wollongong and Hobart, as well as performances at Kyneton Music Festival and Gizzfest 2018 - all of which will be kicking off later this month.

Speaking about the new video for 'On The Day That I Was Born', Moonlover enthuses "A friend of mine fortuitously put me in touch with May Krason-Plarre, a local claymation specialist. I looked at some of her graduate work that she'd done and was blown away by it, so I asked her if I could cut it up and use some of it. She made some brand new stuff which is in there too. I think the clip speaks for itself. It's my favourite clip of the vid clips we've released for the album."

'Thou Shall be Free' is an eclectic record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. Called “surreal” by Pilerats, the album is a collection of batty psychedelia, midnight moon pop and dreamy water ballads, including title track ‘Thou Shall Be Free’ that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). 'Thou Shall Be Free' has received praise from fans and media alike, with The Music noting “It’s pop music, certainly – but has the self-awareness that it doesn’t want to be too obvious about it” and Speaker TV calling it a "cosmic adventure."

ELIZABETH RELEASES VIDEO FOR DEBUT SOLO SINGLE ‘BURN IT ALL’

Press Shot - Pete Dillon.jpg

Watch the 'Burn It All' video here

"a hauntingly spare torch song that showcases Elizabeth's flawless, elastic voice and heartbreakingly caustic lyrics." – Shaad D'Souza, Noisey

"an intimate and vulnerable song that absolutely shines with depth and heart." – Larry Heath, The AU Review

"this is just wonderful." – Bobby Townsend, Something You Said

Ahead of her debut showcases at BIGSOUND 2018 in September, Melbourne’s Elizabeth has released the video for her first ever solo single ‘Burn It All’. Filmed against the stunning backdrop of the South Coast of NSW, ‘Burn It All’ is the debut single from the Totally Mild singer’s solo project and is available to listen to now via Our Golden Friend / Island Records.

On ‘Burn It All’Elizabeth sings of tensions in relationships, and how it might feel easier to walk away and forget you were ever in love than it is to stay and work it out. The video for ‘Burn It All’ is a collaboration between Elizabeth & Xanthe Dobbie, and filmed on Elizabeth’s birthday. It is, in her words, “a Cruel Intentions-style romance between me and a blue convertible. Even a relationship between woman and car is tumultuous; full of desire one minute, detached, angry and confused the next. While Elizabeth’s songwriting has weaved through Totally Mild’s music for years now, it’s finally come a time for it to create a tapestry of its own. She teases out thematic tension between the loving and the lacklustre, the domestic and the deluxe. Her voice is crystal clear, layered against immaculately considered instrumental arrangements.

‘Burn It All’ was released earlier this year as part of Split Singles Club series 2, finding a home with airplay from the likes of Double JTriple RFBi Radio, who added it to B RotationEdge Radio and 4ZZZ. It was named ‘Single of the Day’ on The AU Review, in Something You Said’s ‘Top 10 Tunes of the Week’, in ‘Best New Music’ on The Ripe and Elizabeth was featured as part of ‘8 incredible Australian Artists You Need to Hear’ on Tone Deaf. Next week Elizabeth will head to BIGSOUND solo for the first time to play a string of showcases including the JBCM Party and Our Golden Friend Day Party, official showcases and Biground. Full details are below.

Elizabeth has been firmly cemented in Melbourne’s music community for over 7 years, best known as lead singer and songwriter of Totally Mild. Through her leadership, Totally Mild have had a hugely successful spell touring extensively locally and internationally, most notably throughout Europe and UK. They have supported bands like Best Coast, Perfume Genius, Belle & Sebastian and Real Estate, and played to enraptured audiences at the Meredith Music Festival. A songwriter in her own right, Elizabethwas a finalist for the APRA Personal Development Award last year, with Totally Mild’s second album Her released earlier this year to critical acclaim.
