MOONLOVER RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR ‘WEDDING DAY’ AND ANNOUNCES SOLO EAST COAST TOUR DATES

“what a deliriously delightful trip into the surreal the album is” – Pilerats

“It’s pop music, certainly – but has the self-awareness that it doesn’t want to be too obvious about it.” – The Music

Melbourne psychedelic pop songsmith MOONLOVER is stoked to release the video for‘Wedding Day’ – the latest of a string of videos taken from his acclaimed debut albumThou Shall Be Free. The ‘Wedding Day’ video was animated and produced byMoonlover – aka the solo project of Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red – himself, and was released this morning together with the announcement of four solo shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart kicking off later this month.

Watch the video for ‘Wedding Day’ here. Moonlover is touring throughout August and September, full details below.

‘Wedding Day’ stylistically pays homage to 50s pop with clean arpeggio guitars, close harmonies, Leonard Cohen-esque lyric and Beach Boys-esque flow that’s built to slow dance to. On the ‘Wedding Day’ video, Moonlover explains, “After making ‘The Ooiee’ film clip and handling the animation of the ‘Queen of Sheba’ clip, I set out to make a fully animated clip for ‘Wedding Day’. I figured DIY or die. I was inspired by the work of Lotte Reiniger, who pioneered silhouette animation. I drew some stuff, cut shapes out of cards, scanned a few things and then manipulated it and animated it.” And that he did, the visuals swimming between butterflies flying from open books, a thoughtful letter being composed, hiding from the rain and lovers kissing under wedding bells.

This will be the fifth video taken from Moonlover’s debut Thou Shall Be Free, following visual accompaniments to ‘The Ooiee’‘Queen of Sheba’‘Thou Shall be Free’ and latest ‘Lazy Daisy’Thou Shall Be Free takes the listener on a daring journey through 10 eclectic songs born from dreams, the subconscious and Dinh's hermitic winters. It’s the kind of complete record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

Moonlover has played a plethora of shows in recent months, including supporting Angel OlsenSaskwatch and Cloud Control, plus festival slots at Gizzfest and Changes Festival. As with any Moonlover set, audiences are taken through a cascade of batty psychedelia, midnight moon pop and water ballads led by Dinh's characteristic whimsical charm, freeblowing harmonica and untempered croon. These solo shows will seeMoonlover perform songs from his debut album, plus new and unreleased music.

RVG PERFORM LIVE SESSION AT BBC’S PRESTIGIOUS MAIDA VALESTUDIOS

LISTEN TO THE LIVE SESSION HERE

“All I can say about this band is - listen to the lyrics” - Huw Stevens

A Quality of Mercy has the distinct whiff of future classic about it”
– Graeme Thomson, Uncut Magazine

Four-time AIR Award nominated post-punk band RVG have made their debut in the historic BBC Maida Vale Studios in London for Huw Stevens show on BBC Radio 1. Performing a three-song session with tracks taken from their critically acclaimed debut A Quality of Mercy, Melbourne’s RVG join the list of artists who have recorded inside the prestigious studios, which doubles up as the home of the BBCSymphony Orchestra, alongside the likes of Led ZeppelinDavid Bowie and Oasis, and recent contemporaries HaimArctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine.

Listen to RVG in session at BBC’s Maida Vale Studios here.

The live session shows RVG in all their glory as they tear through ‘A Quality of Mercy’ – with a sneaky lyric swap to hit the UK audiences – ‘I Used to Love You’ and ‘That’s All’ with unrelenting passion and power. The session was recorded whilst RVG were on tour in the UK and Europe for a second time this year throughout July. As well as shows in London, including an instore at the iconic Rough Trade East,RVG performed incredible festival sets at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Festival Les Escales on the west coast of France, plus a string of headline shows across the rest of England and France.

RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums), known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band. The eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of self discovery, falling in love with a computer and the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Earlier this year, RVG headed overseas for the first time to showcase at SXSW and The Great Escape festivals before touring across Europe with UK buzz band Shame, and subsequently signed with Fat Possum who re-released their debut album A Quality of Mercy in the UK at the start of July.

You can catch RVG live at WinterWild in Apollo Bay later this month, and Kyneton Music Festival in October. Romy will be in conversation with Rob Snarski as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival Duets series this year, and at Melbourne Festival as a special guest as part of 16 Lovers Lane.

RVG announce details of UK release of their debut album 'A Quality of Mercy'

Line of Best Fit premieres stream of 'Vincent Van Gogh' to UK audiences, announces release date of AQOM through Fat Possum

Following the recent announcement of their signing to Fat Possum Records, Melbourne's RVG have shared details of the UK release of their debut album A Quality of Mercy, which is out on Friday July 6th 2018. Read about it here

Originally self-released in Australia last year (and re-released through Our Golden Friend/Island Records), the concise 8-track album has a stark, raw intensity to it, recorded live off the floor, at iconic rock'n'roll pub The Tote and while leaning on the band's heroes - the Go-Betweens, the Soft Boys, the Smiths - these are songs that never sound like homage or pastiche hitting that sweet spot between light and dark, employing guitars both angular and jangling.

Having previously shared the title track of the album just prior to their breathtaking shows at this year'sGreat Escape Festival, the band have now unveiled the album track Vincent Van Gogh.

RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums) and known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band.

Their songs, which already sound like classics, traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, isolation and lonliness, falling in love with a computer and the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row and are played with wit, compassion, and commitment, evident in singer Romy's delivery.

All of the songs on A Quality of Mercy find Vager trying to move beyond ego, beyond the simple confessional of the songwriter, hoping to find perspective on both world and self. In such, these songs are at once personal and universal, intimate and grang, timely and timeless. And there's eight of them, adding up to a perfectly formed debut that says so much, yet gets out in under half-an-hour.

FInally, RVG made their debut in Europe supporting Shame in May of this year and later at this year'sGreat Escape Festival where they played a handful of astonishing performances, and they return to the UK in July.

Our Golden Friend x Melbourne Museum team up to bring you a very special 'Nocturnal' featuring Jade Imagine, RVG, Jess Ribeiro, and Totally Mild

buy your tickets here

Melbourne label and artist management collective Our Golden Friend has teamed up with Melbourne Museum for a very special edition of Nocturnal

For the first time at NocturnalTotally Mild bring their re-imagined lounge pop to stage with delectable glamour. This alt-pop four piece are armed with dreamy yet drenched in melancholy tracks fresh from their highly-anticipated second album, Her (out now via Chapter Music).  Produced by James Cecil (Architecture in Helsinki, Super Melody) expect heart-pulling woozy ballads thanks to vocalist / guitarist and songwriter Elizabeth Mitchell, Zachary Schneider (guitar), Lehmann Smith (bass) and Dylan Young (drums). Her has been met with rave reviews, sending the band on a whirlwind USA and UK tour (including showcasing at the prestigious SXSW) and an Australian tour to follow in May and June.

Continuing the powerful vocal poignancy, Jess Ribeiro will bring to the stage compassionate self-conscious narratives, musically traversing an incredible range of genres. Her debut album Kill It Yourself(out now via Barely Dressed Records) was produced by the acclaimed Mick Harvey (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey) and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize in 2016, as well as earning Ribeiro two nominations in The Age Music Victoria Awards. Fresh off the heels of a successful stint at SXSW, Ribeiro is prepping to release her follow-up album later in the year.

Since performing at Nocturnal in August 2017, RVG have re-released their debut album A Quality of Mercy (out now through Our Golden Friend/Island Records) to critical acclaim and received four nominations in The Age Music Victoria Awards. Soaring even higher in 2018, they've conquered the influential SXSW Music Festival and been nominated for four AIR Music Awards.  Centred on singer-songwriter and namesake Romy Vager, this four-piece band including Reuben Bloxham, Angus Bell and Marc Nolte are back to kill it again with their witty and existential post-punk influenced rock.

Rounding out the evening will be Jade Imagine, a stalwart of the indie scene with their What The Fuck Was I Thinking (out via Milk! Records) released in April 2017.  Fronted by Jade McInally (previously Tantrums, Teeth & Tongue and Jess Ribeiro), the band currently features Liam ‘Snowy’ Halliwell (The Ocean Party) on bass, producer/guitarist Tim Harvey (Emma Louise, Real Feelings) and James Harvey (Teeth & Tongue) on drums. Along with their showcases at SXSW this year, the band has scored some exciting support slots with The Pretenders, Angel Olsen, and Benjamin Booker.

Merging music with science and humanities, Nocturnal welcomes everyone 18+ to tour the exhibitions (with drinks in hand!), gaze upon collection treasures and speed-meet Museum experts who will be scattered across the gallery spaces.

For those brave enough, the Museums Victoria Live Exhibits team will have on display golden silk orb-weavers and other impressive species demonstrating all-things-bling. Richard Marchant (Senior Curator, Terrestrial Invertebrates) and Simon Hinkley (Collection Manager, Terrestrial Invertebrates) share sparkly examples from the galaxy of entomology and join Dermot Henry (Deputy Director Sciences) as he showcases the geology of GOLD.  Learn how scientists use gold to scan microscopic creatures from beneath the sea with Lupita Bribiesca (PhD Student, Marine Biology) and Ricky-Lee Erickson (Assistant Collections Manager, Vertebrates) revealing golden marine invertebrates, including worms and sea stars.

Revellers can also head downstairs to worshippers of gold in Vikings: Beyond the Legend, an exhibition from the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm which features more than 450 original artefacts telling the true story of these often-misunderstood Scandinavian celebrities. Pick up a ticket when you purchase your early bird Nocturnal ticket from the Melbourne Museum website.

Explore the entire Museum with galleries open till midnight, including the next innovative superstars from VCE and VET with Top Designs 2018, and a look at Australian fashion which has defied convention with You Can’t Do That  (presented by the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival).

Nocturnal invites guests to rediscover wide-eyed wonder, unearth stories and revel on the dance floor at Melbourne Museum.

RVG ANNOUNCE MELBOURNE HEADLINE SHOW AT THE CURTIN BANDROOM

unnamed.jpg

Melbourne's RVG are today excited to announce their first Australian headline show since returning from the USA. The band will play a very special show in their hometown of Melbourne at The Curtin Bandroom on Thursday 3rd of May immediately before they head overseas again this time bound for the UK & Europe. The band will be joined by special guests Taipan Tiger Girls and Sweet Whirl. With no pre-sales, you'll have to eagerly get yourself to The Curtin on May 3rd as tickets will only be available on the door.

RVG took their music overseas for the first time last month at Austin's SXSW, where they undoubtedly left an impression playing gripping showcases to packed-out rooms. Continuing on with their shimmering streak, this week RVG were announced as being nominated for four AIR Awards. In less than a month the band will support UK upstarts Shame on their 13 date European tour as well as playing The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.

RVG – known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – released their acclaimed debut album A Quality of Mercy in 2017. Self-recorded live off the floor at The Tote, and engineered by their bassist Angus Belle, the eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of being trans, falling in love with a computer, the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Each song is played with wit, compassion and commitment, evident in singer Romy’s delivery, her “fierceness, her flow, and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows” (The Guardian). The Fader called the album “a much-needed plea for kindness” with Triple R calling it “emotionally engaging”, whilst awarding their Album of the Week.

RVG signed with Our Golden Friend who re-released their album in October, which led into a much-hyped BIGSOUND set and four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards – for Best AlbumBest SongBest Band and Best Emerging Act. Their set at Meredith Music Festival was one of the most talked about over the weekend, and they went on to support Camp Cope, and then Future Islands, at The Forum – one of, if not the most iconic venue in Melbourne. RVG have since signed with Isla Angus at ATC Live for bookings in the UK/EU and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America. All this growing from a band whose first release of their debut album came with no photo, no press release, no plan.

Together, RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums) – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band.

RVG RECEIVE FOUR AIR AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Praise for A Quality of Mercy

RRR Album Of The Week
PBS Feature Album
RTR FM Feature Album
"A Quality Of Mercy is a much needed plea for kindness" - The Fader

“RVG evoke 80s Australian bands that crammed garage rock cred with sun-dappled hooks, such as Sunnyboys or the Go-Betweens. What makes these songs so moving is not Vager’s voice itself but her delivery. Her fierceness, her flow and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows.”
 - Kate Hennessy, The Guardian

"A Quality Of Mercy, an eight-track collection of tight, incisive post-punk/retro-pop infused with a liberal dose of downcast catharsis, confessional lyrics and downright infectious hooks."
– The Music

"A Quality of Mercy" is the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, led by songwriter Romy Vager: a powerful LP of emotionally engaging work that draws inspiration from post-punk and new wave pop styles.” – Simon Winkler, RRR

“A Quality of Mercy is the title of RVG’s gripping, post-gothic, charcoal sounding album. Television’s Marquee Moon and Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures are influencing current bands just a Rumours did three years ago”. – Mikey Cahill, The Herald Sun (listed album 7 in 10 ten albums of 2017 so far)

“A Quality of Mercy – the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, is a collection of sharp, driving pop songs that draw equally from the goth palette of early 4AD and the literary proto-punk of Television.” – Who The Hell

“RVG deliver a world-class first release. Prepare yourself to be thrown back and feel all your feelings.” – Beth AQ, PBS Breakfast Spread

RVG have received an incredible FOUR nominations in this year's AIR Music Awards. Nominations are in the categories of Breakthrough Independent Artist of the YearBest Independent Album or EP (forA Quality of Mercy), Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy, or Punk Album (for A Quality of Mercy), andBest Independent Single (for 'A Quality of Mercy'). Winners will be announced July 26 at the Australian Independent Record Labels Association Awards Ceremony.
