RVG announce two intimate nights at The Old Bar this February before their first US tour - showcasing at SXSW 2018

unnamed.jpg

“There’s a reason why RVG are one of the most outstanding Melbourne bands around; something effortless in being on stage, something magical in frontwoman Romy’s voice. Guitars shimmer behind powerful vocals, surging with the urgency of 80’s new wave.” –The AU Review

Hailing from Melbourne’s northern suburbs, acclaimed post-punk band RVG have today announced two back to back shows at The Old Bar this February before they head overseas for SXSW, with additional US tour dates to be announced soon. RVG will be playing on Monday 26 February with Parsnip and Tuesday 27 February with Time For Dreams, with tickets on sale now.

RVG – known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – released their acclaimed debut album A Quality of Mercy in 2017. Self-recorded live off the floor at The Tote, and engineered by their bassist Angus Belle, the eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of being trans, falling in love with a computer, the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Each song is played with wit, compassion and commitment, evident in singer Romy’s delivery, her “fierceness, her flow, and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows” (The Guardian). The Fader called the album “a much-needed plea for kindness” with Triple R calling it “emotionally engaging”, whilst awarding their Album of the Week.

First single from RVG's debut album 'A Quality Of Mercy' to be released on Friday 20th October 2017 via Our Golden Friend / Island Records. Director - James Thomson Assistant - Jackson Kay Special thanks to The Theatre Royale in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia

RVG signed with Our Golden Friend / Island Records who re-released their album in October, which led into a much-hyped BIGSOUND set and four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards – for Best AlbumBest SongBest Band and Best Emerging Act. Their set at Meredith Music Festival was one of the most talked about over the weekend, and they went on to support Camp Cope, and then Future Islands, at The Forum – one of, if not the most iconic venue in Melbourne. RVG have since signed with Isla Angus at ATC Live for bookings in the UK/EU and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America. All this growing from a band whose first release of their debut album came with no photo, no press release, no plan.

Together, RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums) – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band. These shows at their spiritual home of The Old Bar in Fitzroy will be your last chance to see them live before the rest of the world discovers the magic that is RVG.

Praise for RVG - A Quality Of Mercy

RRR Album Of The Week
PBS Feature Album
RTR FM Feature Album
"A Quality Of Mercy is a much needed plea for kindness" The Fader

“RVG evoke 80s Australian bands that crammed garage rock cred with sun-dappled hooks, such as Sunnyboys or the Go-Betweens. What makes these songs so moving is not Vager’s voice itself but her delivery. Her fierceness, her flow and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows.”
 - Kate Hennessy, The Guardian

"A Quality Of Mercy, an eight-track collection of tight, incisive post-punk/retro-pop infused with a liberal dose of downcast catharsis, confessional lyrics and downright infectious hooks."
 The Music

"A Quality of Mercy" is the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, led by songwriter Romy Vager: a powerful LP of emotionally engaging work that draws inspiration from post-punk and new wave pop styles.” – Simon Winkler, RRR

“A Quality of Mercy is the title of RVG’s gripping, post-gothic, charcoal sounding album. Television’s Marquee Moon and Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures are influencing current bands just a Rumours did three years ago”. – Mikey Cahill, The Herald Sun (listed album 7 in 10 ten albums of 2017 so far)

“A Quality of Mercy – the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, is a collection of sharp, driving pop songs that draw equally from the goth palette of early 4AD and the literary proto-punk of Television.”  Who The Hell

“RVG deliver a world-class first release. Prepare yourself to be thrown back and feel all your feelings.” – Beth AQ, PBS Breakfast Spread

MOONLOVER RELEASES NEW SINGLE 'QUEEN OF SHEBA'

Thou Shall Be Free out March 2 through Our Golden Friend / Island Records

Stream new single ‘Queen of Sheba’ YouTube | Spotify

4dc721f4-e7d2-46fc-8b1f-b48c224ef0b9.jpg

“Taking a puff/pass split of straight-up reggae and funk down a heady Gonjasufi-esque mystic, mind-wandering path” – Rolling Stone

“A great Australian artist that paves the way for a promising 2018 of Australian music” – The Wandering Lamb

Melbourne’s mystic psychedelic rocker Moonlover is thrilled to release his new single ‘Queen of Sheba’today, in line with Capricorn’s New Moon. ‘Queen of Sheba’ follows last year’s singles ‘The Ooiee’ and‘Thou Shall Be Free’, and is taken from his forthcoming debut album Thou Shall Be Free due out Friday March 2 through Our Golden Friend / Island Records.

‘Queen of Sheba’ builds on Moonlover’s charming voice and the song’s luring bass runs with playful synth layers and colorful overlays. Laden with sonic surprises, every listen brings something new to the experience, from the extraterrestrial-esque soundFX to trickling overdubs of colourful picking guitar and eastern arpeggios.

Moonlover is the moniker of Melbourne’s Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red. In tune with his occult pseudonym, Dinh releases all of his music in synergy with the Lunar Calendar. ‘Queen of Sheba’ is released today under the blessings of Capricorn’s New Moon, with his debut album Thou Shall Be Freealigning with the Full Moon this coming March.

Thou Shall be Free is the kind of proper record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. The work is a collection of reinterpreted nuances from the universe, including title track ‘Thou Shall Be Free’ that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

As well as the completion of his debut album Moonlover had a stellar 2017, signing with Melbourne labelOur Golden Friend / Island Records, which is also home to artists like RVG and Poppongene, touring nationally with Saskwatch on their album tour and nabbing a slot on Gizzfest in Melbourne.

Lush Melbourne pop quartet Totally Mild have released the video for their latest single Lucky Stars. It premiered on Brooklyn Vegan over the weekend, who praised singer Elizabeth Mitchell's "heart-on-sleeve songwriting".

The gorgeous video, directed by Tobias Willis  with production by KEWL, reflects the candid intimacy of the song. A love performance shot in just a single take, it features Mitchell alone at the piano, following on from the story arc of the first single Total Tonight.

Mitchell describes the video as "an exercise in intimate voyeurism, a momentary glimpse into the world of this woman as she plays a love song and hopes someone will hear it." Watch the video here.

Lucky Stars is from the band's upcoming second album Her, which will be released through Chapter Music on February 23.

bd210647-b1c0-4c99-860f-7218d3eb4e77.jpg

Jess Ribeiro is destined for Austin, Texas. Today she launches the Pozible Campaign which will hopefully see her get to SXSW 2018. With the launch of this campaign, Jess offers some incredibly exciting and distinctively-Jess rewards, for those who are willing to offer this exciting singer songwriter and her band some assistance!

A super performer and a genuine talent, Jess Ribeiro's performance at SXSW 2018 will be key to her international success. SXSW is an annual media conference that features one of the biggest music industry showcases in the world. SXSW is an essential destination for artists aspiring for international influence and a massive networking hub for industry professionals.

2018 will bring the release of Jess Ribeiro's third album. Recorded with producer Ben Edwards ( Julia Jacklin, Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding),  at The Sitting Room in Lyttelton, NZ.  With the help of musician friends, Jade McCinally (Jade Imagine), and Dave Mudie (Courtney Barnett), New music from Jess Ribeiro is on the horizon!

Additionally, Ribeiro and band have accepted an offer to perform at Canadian Music Week from May 7th-13th. With the release of Jess Ribeiro's third album later this year, SXSW andCanadian Music Week will be a supremely opportune time to showcase her music.

The total cost of sending a five-piece band to SXSW is upward of $50,000. The marker for Jess Ribeiro's Pozible Campaign has been set to $10,000, meaning that the funds raised will go toward covering just a portion of the total cost.

Saturday 10th - Sunday 18th March, 2018
SXSW @ Austin, Texas

Saturday 31st March - Sunday 1st April, 2018

Jess Ribeiro’s songs are cinematic in scope: it’s music that travels, across deserts like a Western, through city streets like Film Noir. Narrative and poetic, Ribeiro’s lyrics are rhythmic and evocative, conjuring images that are dimly-lit, but nonetheless electric.

Jess’s debut album Kill It Yourself (August 2015, Barely Dressed/Remote Control) was produced byMick Harvey, a founding member of The Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, whose production for PJ Harvey drew Ribeiro’s attention and admiration.

TOTALLY MILD RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'LUCKY STARS'

9060a272-1d13-4ee1-8f09-7e5bb28c9658.jpg

Lush Melbourne pop quartet Totally Mild have just released Lucky Stars, the second single from upcoming second album Her. After the elegant, kinetic guitar pop of first single Today Tonight (which topped the AMRAP charts and earned raves from Brooklyn VeganClash Magazine and the Herald Sun), Lucky Stars is stripped-back and strikingly beautiful.

The song was premiered overnight on US site Under The Radar, who called it "an unassuming piano ballad of poignant truth."

Although Lucky Stars sounds like an unabashedly personal love song, Totally Mild bandleaderElizabeth Mitchell reveals the truth is not so simple. "Lucky Stars is a love song to a band," she says. "It's about being thankful for the good things in an uncertain situation."

Second album Her is out on 23 Feb 2018 on vinyl LP, CD and digital.

RVG ANNOUNCED AS SUPPORT FOR FUTURE ISLANDS TOUR

To polish off an already gleaming 2017 RVG are incredibly excited to announce they will join synth-pop icons Future Islands on their four-date Australian tour this December! RVG and Future Islands will be sweeping through Australia's east coast cities - Sydney, Brisbane and two close-to-sold-out shows in Melbourne! See below for show details and ticket links!

1772cd11-ac66-4130-8c7b-73e0db09e507.jpg

A well seasoned band, both in the studio and on the stage, Future Islands have distilled the essence of their success and longevity to the themes that permeate their records: that there is power in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way to laugh and cry in the same breath - and be stronger for it. It's a statement that identifies their unique presence on stage, and soon Australian audiences will once again bear witness to Future Islands, in their dynamic glory.

Rounding out a huge year for RVG they will support Cash Savage and the Last Drinks + Camp Copethis Sunday the 3rd of December at The Forum. Between the four date tour with Future Islands, RVG will be stopping by the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre for Meredith Music Festival from the 8th-10th of December!

FUTURE ISLANDS.jpg

When RVG first self-released their debut LP, A Quality Of Mercy, there was no press release. No one sheet. No music video. No proper band photo. No image to uphold. No narrative to forward. Along with her

Instead, there were just two guitars, bass, drums. Eight songs. Classic songs. Songs recorded by the band: Romy Vager, Angus Bell, Reuben Bloxham and Marc Nolte - live off the floor, at Melbourne’s iconic rock’n’roll pub, The Tote. Songs that leant on the band’s heroes —the Go-Betweensthe Soft Boysthe Smiths— whilst never sounding like homage or pastiche. Songs hitting that sweet spot between light and dark, employing guitars both angular and jangling. Songs passionately sung by Romy Vager, the eponymous leader of a band once called, in full, Romy Vager Group.

TOTALLY MILD RELEASE NEW SINGLE & VIDEO 'TODAY TONIGHT' + ANNOUNCE SINGLE LAUNCH SUPPORTS

Photo: Mia Mala McDonald

Photo: Mia Mala McDonald

Melbourne lush pop quartet Totally Mild have just revealed the first single and video Today Tonight from their upcoming second album Her. The video was premiered overnight via UK's Clash Music.

They are also launching Today Tonight with shows in Melbourne and Sydney in November, and can now announce the supports for each show - see the details below!

Today Tonight is two and a half minutes of soaring pop bliss, with a lustrous video directed by KEWL’s Tobias Willis, referencing cinematic classics of faded glamour and isolation like Sunset Boulevard and A Woman Under the Influence.

About the song, singer Elizabeth Mitchell says “Written during a period of unemployment, Today Tonight is quite literally me passing the days waiting for my girlfriend to come home from work. Sinking into the kind of depression that comes from doing nothing when you have the time to do whatever you want, the guilt of unproductivity. The house becomes a trap, you’re not interesting enough to leave it anyway.”

Totally Mild will be releasing Her in February 2018 on LP, CD and digital via Chapter Records. Her follows on from Totally Mild’s acclaimed 2015 debut Down Time (released by Bedroom Suck in Australia, Fire Records in the UK).

Founded in 1992, Chapter is one of Australia's longest running and best loved independent record labels. Its catalogue of almost 150 releases includes artists like Twerps, Dick Diver, Laura Jean, NO ZU, The Goon Sax and Beaches. Tone Deaf have called Chapter "almost unequivocably the most treasured record label in Australia", while Rolling Stone called them "one of Australia's most enduring and popular independent labels." Chapter Music is distributed worldwide via the Secretly Canadian Distribution.

WEB MOONLOVER.jpeg

At 7:56pm tonight in the southern hemisphere the October Full Moon will rise in the zodiac sign of Aries. This is a fiery moon that will ignite many emotions and bring about a collective shift in the group consciousness that we experience as humans. It is only fitting that on this day we introduce you to the newest member of the Our Golden Friend family, Moonlover.

Moonlover is the musical project of Melbourne based mystic reveller Quang Dinh and today he shares first single "Thou Shall Be Free' lifted from his debut full length album, which shares the same name, and is set to be released on the February Full Moon in early 2018. "David Bowie contacted me from the other-side in a dream. I was halfway between this world and the next when he sung to me the first lines of the song 'Oh, oh, oh, oh, thou shall be free'". - Moonlover
