And so with the energy of the Taurus full moon still around us we share with the world the second single from Moonlover 'The Ooiee'. The spooky emerald and amethyst world of 'The Ooiee' pays a timely tribute to Halloweens shadowy spirit and the season of the witch that is still upon us. The video's comedic surreality was produced by Pink Slime Studios. 

Off the back of a nine-date national tour with Saskwatch, Moonlover is excited to announce the launch of his latest single 'The Ooiee' at The Night Heron on Saturday the 11th of November. Music supports from Dada Ono and Ton Denton!

Melbourne lush pop quartet Totally Mild have just revealed the first single and video Today Tonight from their upcoming second album Her. The video was premiered overnight via UK's Clash Music.

They are also launching Today Tonight with shows in Melbourne and Sydney in November, and can now announce the supports for each show - see the details below!

Today Tonight is two and a half minutes of soaring pop bliss, with a lustrous video directed by KEWL’s Tobias Willis, referencing cinematic classics of faded glamour and isolation like Sunset Boulevard and A Woman Under the Influence.

About the song, singer Elizabeth Mitchell says “Written during a period of unemployment, Today Tonight is quite literally me passing the days waiting for my girlfriend to come home from work. Sinking into the kind of depression that comes from doing nothing when you have the time to do whatever you want, the guilt of unproductivity. The house becomes a trap, you’re not interesting enough to leave it anyway.”

Totally Mild will be releasing Her in February 2018 on LP, CD and digital via Chapter Records. Her follows on from Totally Mild’s acclaimed 2015 debut Down Time (released by Bedroom Suck in Australia, Fire Records in the UK).

INTRODUCING MOONLOVER SIGNS TO OUR GOLDEN FRIEND FOR RELEASE OF DEBUT ALBUM SHARES FIRST SINGLE 'THOU SHALL BE FREE'

At 7:56pm tonight in the southern hemisphere the October Full Moon will rise in the zodiac sign of Aries. This is a fiery moon that will ignite many emotions and bring about a collective shift in the group consciousness that we experience as humans. It is only fitting that on this day we introduce you to the newest member of the Our Golden Friend family, Moonlover.

The stunning visuals that accompany 'Thou Shall Be Free' were conceptualised by Moonlover with the help of animation visionary Patrick Hase. To celebrate the birth of his new musical child into the world Moonlover will play a very special single launch show at Melbourne's B.East on Thursday 19th of October before heading out on a national tour supporting Saskwatch throughout October and November and then finishing the year with a special little show at GIZZFEST in Melbourne. As of tomorrow Grandmother Moon will begin her waining cycle before entering her new moon phase, by the time she reaches her luminous full potential in November, Moonlover will be ready to share another single and visual masterpiece with the world. Although she plays on the upcoming album, drummer Ashley Bundang has decided to focus on her own musical projects Classic and Pregnancy, so Totally Mild have recruited new drummer Dylan Young (Way Dynamic). Lehmann Smith is, as ever, a solid, supple presence on bass guitar.

Totally Mild will be introducing Melbourne and Sydney audiences to the updated lineup with these newly announced shows in November.

JESS RIBEIRO ANNOUNCES TOTE FRONT BAR RESIDENCY - TUESDAY'S IN OCTOBER

Jess Ribeiro is coming out of her cave to perform new songs, with her new band, in the front bar of Melbourne's Tote every Tuesday night in October.

Jess and band will be supported by artistic friends : Jade Imagine, Primo, Ryan Downey, International Velvet, 808s and Greatest Hits, Latreenagers, No Local, Dirt hands and Emma Russack.

A new season sound. Join Ribeiro and band, Marc Regueiro-McKelvie (guitar), Tommy Taranto (bass),Dave Mudie (drums) and Janita Foley (synth + BV) at The Tote front bar in October to get a feel of the tunes that will be entering the cosmos in 2018.

RVG SIGN TO OUR GOLDEN FRIEND ANNOUNCE RE-RELEASE OF A QUALITY OF MERCY + ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR

RVG are incredibly excited to announce their signing to Our Golden Friend and the re-release of their debut album A Quality of Mercy. 

When RVG first self-released their debut LP, A Quality Of Mercy, there was no press release. No music video. No proper band photo. No image to uphold. No narrative to forward.

Instead, there were just two guitars, bass and drums. Eight songs. Classic songs. Songs recorded by the band, live off the floor, at Melbourne’s iconic rock’n’roll pub, The Tote. Songs that leant on the band’s heroes —The Go-Betweens, The Soft Boys, The Smiths— whilst never sounding like homage or pastiche. Songs hitting that sweet spot between light and dark, employing guitars both angular and jangling. Songs passionately sung by Romy Vager, the eponymous leader of a band once called, in full,Romy Vager Group.

Vager had arrived in Melbourne, from Adelaide, in full Goth wardrobe, as a teenage runaway. Her first band, Sooky La La, was built on anger, discordance, screaming. They found no following, and routinely cleared rooms. In the wake of their demise, Vager committed to write songs that people would actually like, and want to listen to; to match alienation to melody, introspection to big refrains.

She was living upstairs at The Bank, an erstwhile recording, rehearsal, and performance space housed in an old bank building in suburban Preston. The Bank was a scene unto itself: Jaala, Gregor and Hearingall played there, practiced there, lived there. Dwelling in this big house, surrounded by musicians, hearing their songs coming through the walls, Vager couldn’t help but be inspired. 

Vager committed to playing her first show, downstairs at The Bank, in September 2015, launching a tape of solo songs that hadn’t actually been pressed. Angus Bell (Drug Sweat, the Galaxy Folk), Reuben Bloxham (Hearing, Gregor and fellow Bank resident), and Marc Nolte (Rayon Moon, Latreenagers), were recruited to be a one-off backing band. But once they’d played together, one time, without saying it, they knew all they were a Group.

RVG's members are no strangers to the Melbourne scene, and they utilise their experience and talents to sublime effect both on their recorded music and in their incredible live shows. RVG have quickly become everybody's favourite band and for good reason, they deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don't tend to hear everyday in your local garage band.

ISLAND RECORDS AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCE LABEL PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR GOLDEN FRIEND RECORDS + OUR GOLDEN FRIEND ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF MELBOURNE BAND RVG

Island Records Australia are proud to announce a label partnership with Our Golden Friend Records.

Our Golden Friend, run by Lorrae McKenna, is an independent record label based in Melbourne, Australia.  McKenna was most recently the Promotions and Marketing Manager at Remote Control Records.  Joining Remote Control Records in 2013, Lorrae was instrumental in re-invigorating the label’s Australian roster of artists, signing and developing acts such as Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Methyl Ethel, The Murlocs and many more.

McKenna departed Remote Control in October 2016 and has focused her time on building the label alongsideher management roster, which currently consists of  Jade Imagine, Jess Riberio, RVG, Totally Mild and Poppongene. 

McKenna says: “I am super excited about the new Our Golden Friend partnership with Island Records/UMA. It’s a beautiful collaboration of two different world’s colliding and I feel that I have a huge opportunity to help the artists I love, to work and grow and reach larger audiences."

Michael Taylor, Managing Director, Universal Music Australia adds:  “We are thrilled to partner with Our Golden Friend.  Lorrae and her label will continue to operate in their own unique style and creative direction and will be able to tap into Island / UMA whenever it makes sense for them to do so.”

Together with the announcement, comes news of the label’s first signing, Melbourne four piece RVG. Hailing from the northern suburbs of Melbourne and having just been announced on the line up for Meredith Music Festival, Our Golden Friend will re-release RVG’s debut LP 'A Quality Of Mercy' which the band self-released in early 2017.  The band will also play Bigsound (see below).

Our Golden Friend will utilise Island Records Australia for additional label services and will be distributed by Universal Music Australia.  McKenna’s management company will continue to operate separately.

RVG JOIN OUR GOLDEN FRIEND MANAGEMENT ROSTER

Our Golden Friend are extremely excited to welcome the newest members to their management roster RVG. Hailing from the northern suburbs of Melbourne , RVG — more formally, but less frequently, the Romy Vager Group — self released their sensational debut full-length, A Quality Of Mercy, earlier this year. The LP is an eight-track collection of tight, incisive post-punk/retro-pop infused with a liberal dose of downcast catharsis, confessional lyrics and downright infectious hooks.

The four-piece band is centred on singer-songwriter and namesake Romy Vager, who self-describes her influences as including the likes of the Psychedelic Furs, UK post-punk/neo-psych quartet Soft Boys and Queensland indie icons the Go-Betweens.

Featuring members from The Galaxy Folk, Drug Sweat, Hearing, Gregor and Rayon Moon, the individual musicians are no strangers to the Melbourne scene, and they utilise their experience and talents to sublime effect both on their recorded music and in their incredible live shows, with their individual contributions, including the guitar work of Reuben Bloxham, the bass action of Angus Bell and mad drumming skills of Marc Nolte.

The multi-talented Bell also engineered the album — which shares its name with an episode of The Twilight Zone in the band room at The Tote before mixing it down at The Bank. The album was mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control).
