MOONLOVER RELEASES VIDEO FOR 'ON THE DAY THAT I WAS BORN' FROM ALBUM 'THOU SHALL BE FREE'

Melbourne psychedelic pop songsmith MOONLOVER is stoked to release the video for ‘On The Day That I Was Born' – the latest of a string of videos taken from his acclaimed debut album Thou Shall Be Free. The ‘On The Day That I Was Born’ video was animated by May Krason-Plarre, and edited by Moonlover – aka the musical project of Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red. The video is released this morning to coincide with his recent full band tour announcement, which will be taking him to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Thirroul, Canberra, Wollongong and Hobart, as well as performances at Kyneton Music Festival and Gizzfest 2018 - all of which will be kicking off later this month.

Speaking about the new video for 'On The Day That I Was Born', Moonlover enthuses "A friend of mine fortuitously put me in touch with May Krason-Plarre, a local claymation specialist. I looked at some of her graduate work that she'd done and was blown away by it, so I asked her if I could cut it up and use some of it. She made some brand new stuff which is in there too. I think the clip speaks for itself. It's my favourite clip of the vid clips we've released for the album."

'Thou Shall be Free' is an eclectic record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. Called “surreal” by Pilerats, the album is a collection of batty psychedelia, midnight moon pop and dreamy water ballads, including title track ‘Thou Shall Be Free’ that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). 'Thou Shall Be Free' has received praise from fans and media alike, with The Music noting “It’s pop music, certainly – but has the self-awareness that it doesn’t want to be too obvious about it” and Speaker TV calling it a "cosmic adventure."

ELIZABETH RELEASES VIDEO FOR DEBUT SOLO SINGLE ‘BURN IT ALL’

Press Shot - Pete Dillon.jpg

Watch the 'Burn It All' video here

"a hauntingly spare torch song that showcases Elizabeth's flawless, elastic voice and heartbreakingly caustic lyrics." – Shaad D'Souza, Noisey

"an intimate and vulnerable song that absolutely shines with depth and heart." – Larry Heath, The AU Review

"this is just wonderful." – Bobby Townsend, Something You Said

Ahead of her debut showcases at BIGSOUND 2018 in September, Melbourne’s Elizabeth has released the video for her first ever solo single ‘Burn It All’. Filmed against the stunning backdrop of the South Coast of NSW, ‘Burn It All’ is the debut single from the Totally Mild singer’s solo project and is available to listen to now via Our Golden Friend / Island Records.

On ‘Burn It All’Elizabeth sings of tensions in relationships, and how it might feel easier to walk away and forget you were ever in love than it is to stay and work it out. The video for ‘Burn It All’ is a collaboration between Elizabeth & Xanthe Dobbie, and filmed on Elizabeth’s birthday. It is, in her words, “a Cruel Intentions-style romance between me and a blue convertible. Even a relationship between woman and car is tumultuous; full of desire one minute, detached, angry and confused the next. While Elizabeth’s songwriting has weaved through Totally Mild’s music for years now, it’s finally come a time for it to create a tapestry of its own. She teases out thematic tension between the loving and the lacklustre, the domestic and the deluxe. Her voice is crystal clear, layered against immaculately considered instrumental arrangements.

‘Burn It All’ was released earlier this year as part of Split Singles Club series 2, finding a home with airplay from the likes of Double JTriple RFBi Radio, who added it to B RotationEdge Radio and 4ZZZ. It was named ‘Single of the Day’ on The AU Review, in Something You Said’s ‘Top 10 Tunes of the Week’, in ‘Best New Music’ on The Ripe and Elizabeth was featured as part of ‘8 incredible Australian Artists You Need to Hear’ on Tone Deaf. Next week Elizabeth will head to BIGSOUND solo for the first time to play a string of showcases including the JBCM Party and Our Golden Friend Day Party, official showcases and Biground. Full details are below.

Elizabeth has been firmly cemented in Melbourne’s music community for over 7 years, best known as lead singer and songwriter of Totally Mild. Through her leadership, Totally Mild have had a hugely successful spell touring extensively locally and internationally, most notably throughout Europe and UK. They have supported bands like Best Coast, Perfume Genius, Belle & Sebastian and Real Estate, and played to enraptured audiences at the Meredith Music Festival. A songwriter in her own right, Elizabethwas a finalist for the APRA Personal Development Award last year, with Totally Mild’s second album Her released earlier this year to critical acclaim.

MOONLOVER RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR ‘WEDDING DAY’ AND ANNOUNCES SOLO EAST COAST TOUR DATES

crop.jpg

“what a deliriously delightful trip into the surreal the album is” – Pilerats

“It’s pop music, certainly – but has the self-awareness that it doesn’t want to be too obvious about it.” – The Music

Melbourne psychedelic pop songsmith MOONLOVER is stoked to release the video for‘Wedding Day’ – the latest of a string of videos taken from his acclaimed debut albumThou Shall Be Free. The ‘Wedding Day’ video was animated and produced byMoonlover – aka the solo project of Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red – himself, and was released this morning together with the announcement of four solo shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart kicking off later this month.

Watch the video for ‘Wedding Day’ here. Moonlover is touring throughout August and September, full details below.

‘Wedding Day’ stylistically pays homage to 50s pop with clean arpeggio guitars, close harmonies, Leonard Cohen-esque lyric and Beach Boys-esque flow that’s built to slow dance to. On the ‘Wedding Day’ video, Moonlover explains, “After making ‘The Ooiee’ film clip and handling the animation of the ‘Queen of Sheba’ clip, I set out to make a fully animated clip for ‘Wedding Day’. I figured DIY or die. I was inspired by the work of Lotte Reiniger, who pioneered silhouette animation. I drew some stuff, cut shapes out of cards, scanned a few things and then manipulated it and animated it.” And that he did, the visuals swimming between butterflies flying from open books, a thoughtful letter being composed, hiding from the rain and lovers kissing under wedding bells.

This will be the fifth video taken from Moonlover’s debut Thou Shall Be Free, following visual accompaniments to ‘The Ooiee’‘Queen of Sheba’‘Thou Shall be Free’ and latest ‘Lazy Daisy’Thou Shall Be Free takes the listener on a daring journey through 10 eclectic songs born from dreams, the subconscious and Dinh's hermitic winters. It’s the kind of complete record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance.

Moonlover has played a plethora of shows in recent months, including supporting Angel OlsenSaskwatch and Cloud Control, plus festival slots at Gizzfest and Changes Festival. As with any Moonlover set, audiences are taken through a cascade of batty psychedelia, midnight moon pop and water ballads led by Dinh's characteristic whimsical charm, freeblowing harmonica and untempered croon. These solo shows will seeMoonlover perform songs from his debut album, plus new and unreleased music.

RVG PERFORM LIVE SESSION AT BBC’S PRESTIGIOUS MAIDA VALESTUDIOS

rvg - Steve Gullick.jpg

LISTEN TO THE LIVE SESSION HERE

“All I can say about this band is - listen to the lyrics” - Huw Stevens

A Quality of Mercy has the distinct whiff of future classic about it”
– Graeme Thomson, Uncut Magazine

Four-time AIR Award nominated post-punk band RVG have made their debut in the historic BBC Maida Vale Studios in London for Huw Stevens show on BBC Radio 1. Performing a three-song session with tracks taken from their critically acclaimed debut A Quality of Mercy, Melbourne’s RVG join the list of artists who have recorded inside the prestigious studios, which doubles up as the home of the BBCSymphony Orchestra, alongside the likes of Led ZeppelinDavid Bowie and Oasis, and recent contemporaries HaimArctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine.

Listen to RVG in session at BBC’s Maida Vale Studios here.

The live session shows RVG in all their glory as they tear through ‘A Quality of Mercy’ – with a sneaky lyric swap to hit the UK audiences – ‘I Used to Love You’ and ‘That’s All’ with unrelenting passion and power. The session was recorded whilst RVG were on tour in the UK and Europe for a second time this year throughout July. As well as shows in London, including an instore at the iconic Rough Trade East,RVG performed incredible festival sets at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Festival Les Escales on the west coast of France, plus a string of headline shows across the rest of England and France.

RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums), known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band. The eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of self discovery, falling in love with a computer and the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Earlier this year, RVG headed overseas for the first time to showcase at SXSW and The Great Escape festivals before touring across Europe with UK buzz band Shame, and subsequently signed with Fat Possum who re-released their debut album A Quality of Mercy in the UK at the start of July.

You can catch RVG live at WinterWild in Apollo Bay later this month, and Kyneton Music Festival in October. Romy will be in conversation with Rob Snarski as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival Duets series this year, and at Melbourne Festival as a special guest as part of 16 Lovers Lane.

RVG announce details of UK release of their debut album 'A Quality of Mercy'

RVG new general use press image - credit James Thomson .jpg

Line of Best Fit premieres stream of 'Vincent Van Gogh' to UK audiences, announces release date of AQOM through Fat Possum

Following the recent announcement of their signing to Fat Possum Records, Melbourne's RVG have shared details of the UK release of their debut album A Quality of Mercy, which is out on Friday July 6th 2018. Read about it here

Originally self-released in Australia last year (and re-released through Our Golden Friend/Island Records), the concise 8-track album has a stark, raw intensity to it, recorded live off the floor, at iconic rock'n'roll pub The Tote and while leaning on the band's heroes - the Go-Betweens, the Soft Boys, the Smiths - these are songs that never sound like homage or pastiche hitting that sweet spot between light and dark, employing guitars both angular and jangling.

Having previously shared the title track of the album just prior to their breathtaking shows at this year'sGreat Escape Festival, the band have now unveiled the album track Vincent Van Gogh.

RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums) and known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band.

Their songs, which already sound like classics, traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, isolation and lonliness, falling in love with a computer and the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row and are played with wit, compassion, and commitment, evident in singer Romy's delivery.

All of the songs on A Quality of Mercy find Vager trying to move beyond ego, beyond the simple confessional of the songwriter, hoping to find perspective on both world and self. In such, these songs are at once personal and universal, intimate and grang, timely and timeless. And there's eight of them, adding up to a perfectly formed debut that says so much, yet gets out in under half-an-hour.

FInally, RVG made their debut in Europe supporting Shame in May of this year and later at this year'sGreat Escape Festival where they played a handful of astonishing performances, and they return to the UK in July.
