Thou Shall Be Free out March 2 through Our Golden Friend / Island Records

“There’s a lilting romance and airiness that streams through this tune” – The AU Review

“A great Australian artist that paves the way for a promising 2018 of Australian music” – The Wandering Lamb

As February’s New Moon dawns today, Melbourne’s mystic psychedelic rocker Moonlover is excited to release the video for his latest single ‘Queen of Sheba’‘Queen of Sheba’ is the third single from his forthcoming debut album Thou Shall Be Free due out Friday March 2 through Our Golden Friend / Island Records.

Watch the video for ‘Queen of Sheba’ here. Moonlover is launching the single at Yarra Hotel Abbotsford Friday 23 February, see event details here.

Gazing upon the visuals in the video, you come to understand how they are the perfect accompaniment to the track, begging the question: which came first, the video or the song? Journey through the kaleidoscopic world of Moonlover’s inner psyche as the visuals play on the luring bass lines, with each frame emphasising a synth line or overlay. The video for ‘Queen of Sheba’ was filmed by Alifeleti Toki, with animation and editing by Dinh at his own Pink Slime Studios.

Moonlover is the moniker of Melbourne’s Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red. In tune with his occult pseudonym, Dinh releases all of his music in synergy with the Lunar Calendar. The video for ‘Queen of Sheba’ is released today under the blessings of February’s New Moon, with his debut album Thou Shall Be Free aligning with the Full Moon this coming March.

Thou Shall be Free is the kind of proper record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. The work is a collection of reinterpreted nuances from the universe, including title track ‘Thou Shall Be Free’ that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

As well as the completion of his debut album Moonlover had a stellar 2017, signing with Melbourne labelOur Golden Friend / Island Records, which is also home to artists like RVG and Poppongene, touring nationally with Saskwatch on their album tour, and is supporting Angel Olsen in Melbourne next month.

RVG ANNOUNCE THIRD SHOW AT THE OLD BAR THIS FEBRUARY AFTER FIRST TWO SELL OUT; PLAYING SXSW IN 2018

Wednesday 28 February @ The Old Bar w/ Spotting
Tickets on sale now

“There’s a reason why RVG are one of the most outstanding Melbourne bands around; something effortless in being on stage, something magical in frontwoman Romy’s voice. Guitars shimmer behind powerful vocals, surging with the urgency of 80’s new wave.” – The AU Review

Acclaimed post-punk band RVG have today announced a third show at The Old Bar in Melbourne this February after selling out their first two shows. RVG will now also play on Wednesday 28 February with synth-punk band Spotting – tickets are on sale now and they won’t last. These will be RVG’s final Melbourne shows before they head overseas to perform at SXSW, with additional US tour dates to be announced soon.

Hailing from Melbourne’s northern suburbs, RVG – known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – released their acclaimed debut album A Quality of Mercy in 2017. Self-recorded live off the floor at The Tote, and engineered by their bassist Angus Belle, the eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of being trans, falling in love with a computer, the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Each song is played with wit, compassion and commitment, evident in singer Romy’s delivery, her “fierceness, her flow, and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows” (The Guardian). The Fader called the album “a much-needed plea for kindness” with Triple R calling it “emotionally engaging”, whilst awarding their Album of the Week.

RVG signed with Our Golden Friend / Island Records who re-released their album in October, which led into a much-hyped BIGSOUND set and four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards – for Best AlbumBest SongBest Band and Best Emerging Act. Their set at Meredith Music Festival was one of the most talked about over the weekend, and they went on to support Camp Cope, and then Future Islands, at The Forum – one of, if not the most iconic venue in Melbourne. RVG have since signed with Isla Angus at ATC Live for bookings in the UK/EU and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America. All this growing from a band whose first release of their debut album came with no photo, no press release, no plan.

Together, RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums) – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band. These shows at their spiritual home of The Old Bar in Fitzroy will be your last chance to see them live before the rest of the world discovers the magic that is RVG.

Praise for RVG - A Quality Of Mercy

RRR Album Of The Week
PBS Feature Album
RTR FM Feature Album
"A Quality Of Mercy is a much needed plea for kindness" The Fader

“RVG evoke 80s Australian bands that crammed garage rock cred with sun-dappled hooks, such as Sunnyboys or the Go-Betweens. What makes these songs so moving is not Vager’s voice itself but her delivery. Her fierceness, her flow and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows.”
 - Kate Hennessy, The Guardian

"A Quality Of Mercy, an eight-track collection of tight, incisive post-punk/retro-pop infused with a liberal dose of downcast catharsis, confessional lyrics and downright infectious hooks."
 The Music

"A Quality of Mercy" is the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, led by songwriter Romy Vager: a powerful LP of emotionally engaging work that draws inspiration from post-punk and new wave pop styles.” – Simon Winkler, RRR

“A Quality of Mercy is the title of RVG’s gripping, post-gothic, charcoal sounding album. Television’s Marquee Moon and Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures are influencing current bands just a Rumours did three years ago”. – Mikey Cahill, The Herald Sun (listed album 7 in 10 ten albums of 2017 so far)

“A Quality of Mercy – the debut album from Melbourne’s RVG, is a collection of sharp, driving pop songs that draw equally from the goth palette of early 4AD and the literary proto-punk of Television.”  Who The Hell

“RVG deliver a world-class first release. Prepare yourself to be thrown back and feel all your feelings.” – Beth AQ, PBS Breakfast Spread

Jess Ribeiro is destined for Austin, Texas. Today she launches the Pozible Campaign which will hopefully see her get to SXSW 2018. With the launch of this campaign, Jess offers some incredibly exciting and distinctively-Jess rewards, for those who are willing to offer this exciting singer songwriter and her band some assistance!

A super performer and a genuine talent, Jess Ribeiro's performance at SXSW 2018 will be key to her international success. SXSW is an annual media conference that features one of the biggest music industry showcases in the world. SXSW is an essential destination for artists aspiring for international influence and a massive networking hub for industry professionals.

2018 will bring the release of Jess Ribeiro's third album. Recorded with producer Ben Edwards ( Julia Jacklin, Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding),  at The Sitting Room in Lyttelton, NZ.  With the help of musician friends, Jade McCinally (Jade Imagine), and Dave Mudie (Courtney Barnett), New music from Jess Ribeiro is on the horizon!

Additionally, Ribeiro and band have accepted an offer to perform at Canadian Music Week from May 7th-13th. With the release of Jess Ribeiro's third album later this year, SXSW andCanadian Music Week will be a supremely opportune time to showcase her music.

The total cost of sending a five-piece band to SXSW is upward of $50,000. The marker for Jess Ribeiro's Pozible Campaign has been set to $10,000, meaning that the funds raised will go toward covering just a portion of the total cost.
